How we might look after seeing something chocolate

Chocolate definitely has the smile factor

It seems to have been proved, that which we already knew - chocolate makes us smile the most.

It just pipped 'seeing a loved one' to the post, in a survey which was conducted by the British Dental Health Foundation.

Smiling also looks to be contagious, just like yawning, as a third of people said they are more willing to smile when they see somebody else doing it.

Food and relationships were the most popular choices in the bewildering array of things which were mentioned in the poll, which asked what spontaneously gave people the smile factor - the theme of this year's National Smile Month.

Dr Nigel Carter, Chief Executive of the British Dental Health Foundation, says: "We hope this year's National Smile Month Campaighn has brought a smile to many people's faces and has helped to remind everyone about how to care for their teeth.

"It is clear the nation has a very sweet tooth and chocolate definitely has the smile factor. Chocolate may not be the best thing for your teeth, but if everyone follows the Foundation's three rules for good oral health, it's something that we can all continue to enjoy."

At least half of those questioned featured chocolate on their lists of items, with 60 per cent of women making it their favourite choice. Men prefer a Sunday roast to chocolate.

The Foundation also asked people to choose a colour which makes them smile the most and the top polling answer was yellow, with around a third of the votes - most likely because it reminds us of the sun, something which we don't often see in the UK.

Dr Carter follows on by saying: "As a final reminder for this year, we recommend adopting a simple routine of brushing for two minutes twice a day using flouride toothpast, cutting down on how often you eat and drink sugary foods and drinks and visiting your dentist regulary, as often as they recommend."

Just take a look at the picture above and smile.
