Keep your peepers safe with these tips

Keep your peepers safe with these tips

Eyes are one of our most vital organs, so this National Eye Health Week, we got some expert tips on how to take care of your peepers.

To remind people just how important their eyes really are, Optrex have teamed up with Optometrist Charles Babumba, of City Eyes London, to share expert tips on how to help look after their eyes:

Be eye-ware: Looking into family eye health history can help you discover whether or not any eye conditions run in the family that you should be aware of

Eye check: People often neglect their eyes, but they should be checked every two years unless recommended otherwise. Many companies will pay for their full time employees to have an eye test

Eat well: Having a healthy diet is more important than people realise when it comes to keeping eyes protected. Research reveals nutrients rich in omega-3, zinc, vitamins C and E; and green leafy vegetables, may help prevent age-related vision problems and help keep the retina healthy

Safety in the sun: Protecting eyes is most important when the light intensity is high, eg in sunny conditions and when surrounded by snow or water. UV exposure can also damage eyes so appropriate sunglasses should be worn to protect the eyes

Contact lens care: For those who wear contact lenses, handle with clean, dry hands and only ever use solution recommended by an optometrist

Consultant Optometrist Charles Babumba, comments: "Modern living and staring at computer screens for hours every day means that most of us experience tired, uncomfortable, dull eyes from time to time.

“Using a liposomal spray may help repair the natural tear film in dry irritable eyes and restore the natural moisture barrier to soothe the eyes. Try to also get plenty of sleep and relaxation, as this will help to revitalise eyes and the skin around them.

“Drinking lots of water will help keep eyes hydrated and visibly beautiful all day long too."
