Flashlights aren't at all obvious, but they are gorgeous

We’ve seen the ombre hair trend take over, it’s been done plenty of different ways with bright and pastel colours, in reverse, and it’s been worn out.

So here we have a new take on the hair trend, and it is a lot more subtle and a lot more wearable.

Flashlights are the must have hair colour trend of the season ahead.

Tasha Stevens, Colour Director at the Jamie Stevens Hair salon who has also been shortlisted as a finalist in the Schwarzkopf Professional British Colour Technician of the Year category for HJ’s 2013 British Hairdressing Awards, talks us through the trend.

"This coming season, we are seeing a move away from obvious contrasts in colour such as dip dyed or ombre ends towards a more subtle, refined seamless result. Whatever the colour, the emphasis is on luxurious sheen and condition.

“At Jamie Stevens Hair, we offer a colour service called 'flashlights' which, by placing subtle enhancements around the natural highlighting features of the face, creates natural looking, seamless light that glistens.

“It's about minimally using bespoke colour and lightly gliding it through the hair free-hand to highlight desired features such as the cheekbones, eyes, nose, forehead and jawline. The key is staying within a three shade boundary and by placing lightened panels where the natural day light falls and working the colour subtly through the ends, this creates a fresh, youthful, luminous glow that softly illuminates the face. Keeping it super natural means it's cost effective with no obvious demarcation lines as you can make your colour last longer with the use of professional care products".

Having never had my hair coloured before, this hair trend is the perfect way to start me or you off. The colour is not bold or dramatic; it’s refined and beautiful and has really lifted my whole face. Hair looks brighter and tonal without the worry of roots or such.

Tasha continues: “Darker shades complement the punkier, edgy styles for Autumn/Winter in pitch black, midnight violet, decadent chocolate and deep reds, with accents of ink blue and acai. On the opposite end of the spectrum, we're working with natural looking, luminous lighter tones from caramel latte and cashmere beige to creamy nude blonde.

“Bridging the gap are the 'blonettes' and multi-tonal brunettes with lightened areas to enhance the hair's natural tones, inspired by model of the moment Cara Delevingne.”

The amazing massaging chairs

It’s a gorgeous salon that truly looks after each and every one of its customers. I advise you to hop into the chair to get your hair washed and ask if it’s ok to never leave. The massaging system works wonders on your back and shoulders and the head massage finishes it off perfectly.
