London Fashion Week at Somerset House

London Fashion Week at Somerset House

London Fashion Week is a bit of a blur now when I look back at it, it went by so quickly and the days were spent queuing up and then watching the models strut down the runways and then rushing along to the next show.

You can read my review of the David Koma, Marios Schwab, palmer//harding, Alexis Barrell, Ones to Watch and watch the highlights now.

But here we have a quicker run through at everything else that went on during London Fashion Week.

I was invited to the Michael Van Der Ham collection by Compeed, and the clothing is much darker in mood and colour, compared with his SS13 of brights and pastels.

He took inspiration from vintage couture and combined it with references to deconstructed, destroyed and worn out clothes. Most of the textiles were especially developed for the collection.

An enjoyable collection with wearable pieces – I especially loved the printed trousers.

I was also invited to a few shows by official sponsors of the week, Vodafone. Maria Grachvogel was one of these shows.

The AW13 collection presents extreme simplicity and modernity in cut and texture. The collection is inspired by the quiet calm of winter woodland landscapes laid bare.

Maria Grachvogel expresses tis reflection through the purity of carefully composed prints and tailoring, embodying nature’s cycle of birth and rebirth through the seasons.

Heavy fabrics like velvet and brocade added a sense of luxury to the collection, as did the fur collars. The printed velvet adds richness to the Maria Grachvogel signature jumpsuit and was definitely a highlight of the show.

The Nina Naustdal AW13 GOLD collection had a very luxurious setting in BAKU on Sloane Street, which only further enhanced the beautiful, decadent collection that was to follow.

Inspired by raw diamonds in natural and unique colour ways, the collection presents classic tailoring, gowns in sultry exotic animal prints and stunning separates in a vivid colour palette ranging from burnt orange, emerald green and royal blue.

Fashion Scout hosted the Lulu Liu AW13 catwalk, a collection that proves the designer has excelled in her quest to give us something that is both wearable and exhilarating.

The collection continues the striking romanticism of Lulu Liu’s designs, with signature surreal prints in floral designs. Simple cuts in luxury fabrics, from rich wool to lambskin leather, were complimented by a rich colour palette of soft beige, metallic blue, red and grey.

The silhouette is a simpler cut and cleaner line compared with other past collections, which only further accentuates the designs key elements of print and colour.

The Aminaka Wilmont collection presented a beautiful monochrome collection that is at the same time rich in texture, pattern and shape.

Influence for Maki Aminak Lofvander and Marcus Wilmont came from the theory of the multiverse, dimensional layering of matter rather than convergence.

Layering is key; silhouettes are boxy, necklines high and the mood one of darkly luxurious yet austere dressing.

I also spotted Karl Lagerfeld and Anna Wintour, well dressed up versions of them, handing out the must-have snacks, popchips.

Don’t forget to take a look at the Street Style at LFW and the must have designer handbag too.
