Michael Fassbender in Prometheus

Michael Fassbender in Prometheus

2012 has already been an incredibly busy year for Michael Fassbender with the likes of Shame, Haywire and A Dangerous Method already under his belt.

But this week sees him take on the mammoth sci-fi project Prometheus as he works alongside director Ridley Scott for the very first time.

And Fassbender is one of a handful of home grown actors who are making a splash on the other side of the pond.

- Michael Fassbender

I know that Fassbender is technically Irish but I couldn't very well leave him out after the stellar couple of years that he has had.

2012 has seen him grab the attention of just about everybody with his stunning central performance in Shame, a role which saw him reunite with filmmaker Steve McQueen.

The actor was nominated for a Golden Globe and a Bafta but was overlooked when the Oscar nominees were revealed.

But he has successful mixed blockbuster projects such as X-Men: First Class with much smaller movies like Fish Tank over the years to show his versatility.

Twelve Years A Slave and The Councillor are just two of the projects that he has in the pipeline.

- Henry Cavill

Henry Cavill was one of the actors who was considered for the role of James Bond when Pearce Brosnan left the role.

And while he may have missed out on the role of 007 but he will be taking on the role of Clark Kent when Superman returns to the big screen.

Cavill is set to see his star rocket next year as Man of Steel will be the biggest role and movie of his career.

Cavill has mixed his TV and movie roles as he moved from the likes of series The Tudors to blockbuster Immortals.

- Tom Hardy

If there is one actor that I am looking forward to seeing on the big screen then it is Tom Hardy as he takes on the role of Bane in The Dark Knight Rises.

Hardy is one of the new faces on the cast list and, if the early trailers are anything to go by, he is set to be one hard ass so Batman will have his hands full.

Inception was one of the movies that really propelled Hardy in American and since then he has starred in the fantastic Tinker Tailor Solider Spy and Warrior.

We will also be seeing him on the big screen in Lawless this summer as Matt Bondurant's novel The Wettest Country In The World is adapted for the big screen.

Mad Max 4: Fury Road is another project on the horizon for the actor as he set to take on the role of Max Rockatansky - the first time the character will have been seen on the big screen in nearly twenty years.

- Andrew Garfield

Andrew Garfield has already turned in some great performances in the likes of The Social Network and Never Let Me Go but the biggest role of his career is just around the corner.

Yes he is set to swing into cinemas this summer as Spider Man as the franchise is given a re-boot under the watchful eye of director Marc Webb.

Garfield will play Peter Parker in what is the  biggest role of his career as he fought off a whole host of actors for the role.

While the movie hasn't even been released yet there is already talk of a sequel and this could be a role that keeps Garfield busy for some time.

I will admit that Spider Man is the one comic book character that has never really interested me on the big screen but having seen the trailer I am keen to see in which direction Garfield, who I am a big fan of, takes the character.

- Robert Pattinson

Robert Pattinson seems to make a splash wherever he goes but he is really beginning to spread his wings now that the Twilight Saga is coming to an end.

We have already seen him in Bel Ami this year but Cosmopolis is his next big project as he teams up with David Cronenberg.

The movie screen in Cannes last week and Pattinson's central performance was subject of much praise and I am really looking forward to seeing him move away from Edward Cullen.

- Eddie Redmayne

Eddie Redmayne is an actor who has been around for a while but it's only recently that he is really getting the attention he deserves.

That was really kicked off with his great performance in TV series The Pillars of The Earth before he went on to star alongside Michelle Williams in My Week With Marilyn.

But his star is set to rise further at the end of the year as he will take on the role of Marius in the highly anticipated movie Les Miserables.

The movie is a big screen adaptation of the stage musical directed by Tom Hooper and it is set to be a major force on the awards circuit next year.

Prometheus is released 1st June
