Everyone knows Paris Hilton as the happy go lucky socialite who lives life up on the party scene. In 2005 she moved from the small screen, where she had been starring with Nicole Richie in The Simple Life, to the big screen with House of Wax.Now she is returning to the big screen with comedy The Hottie and the Nottie.

So Paris, was the idea of playing a young hot blonde yours?

[Laughs] No, the producer came to me and said there was no one else who could play the ‘Hottie’ the way that I could. So I read it and fell in love with it. Reading the script I was, like, laughing out loud and also I love the ending. I just thought it was such a sweet story and a really fun film, which also had a really beautiful message. I thought it was a really cute love story.

The ‘Nottie’ is a pretty horrendous looking girl. How was it seeing Christine made up like that? Could you have done it?

It was hard looking at her at first but I got used to it! I couldn’t have done it. That would be too hard for me! It would be funny though.

Have you ever been in a similar situation with a real friend where you wanted to make her over?

Not as bad! Not really. My friends are too good-looking for that. I don’t have any real friends who look like June. I don’t think anyone looks like June!

Have you ever felt like a ‘Nottie’ yourself, have you ever felt ugly?

I think every girl has bad days. We are all human. What matters is how you are on the inside that shines through and I think that’s the message in the movie.

Even with June in the end her true beauty does shine through. It doesn’t matter how you look it’s how you feel.

Would you consider plastic surgery and if so what?

I don’t know. I’m really scared even of getting shots. I don’t want to think about it.

Why did you want to do this movie?

One reason why I wanted to do this movie because it totally reminded me of There’s Something About Mary, which I love. I also love films like Heathers and Beaches.

Did everyone get on with each other on set?

Yes definitely. We had such a great time. As soon as we all met, the lovely Christine, funny Joel we became great friends. We would hang out even when we weren’t working. I was really happy with that.

What did you like about being a Producer on this movie?

I like it because I like being in control and making decisions and just being a part of creating something, but it is hard. You kind of have a lot of stress because you have to work on and off camera.

But I’m so proud of the project that it didn’t matter to me at all, all the work. I loved every minute.

Do people take you seriously as an actress?

A lot of people know me from the Simple Life and I basically play a character in that reality show. I was acting in that. People think that’s actually who I am, but it’s not.

I have been working with an incredible acting coach, Ivana Chubbuck, and I’ve worked really hard for it. This is the first film I’ve actually really been serious with. Like before I never had an acting coach I just really winged it and this time I worked with Ivana Chubbuck every single day for hours a day. She even brought Christine in with me a couple of times so we could work on things together also.

So since House of Wax, in which your acting was criticised, what kind of things have you learnt?

Just learning from her how to get into the scene and looking at characters and basing them on things that’s happened in my real life. She always says actors are really great if they’ve led a life of a lot of things happening to them and I’ve had a lot happen to me in my life!

Now I’m willing to use those experiences in my acting. It’s exciting! It’ll be cool to do some more fun movie projects.

So you’re a method actor?

Yeah if there’s a scene where I have to get upset I think of a passed person or something sad that’s happened in my life and use that and it really works.

How will you convince people you are a serious actor?

I will just take on different roles. I’ve got a drama to do after my next film. I just have to keep doing a good job.

Is there a role which you would have like to play but no one thought of you for?

Ummm. I like the film ‘Juno’ that was really cute.

There is a joke in the film about a stalker. Have you ever been stalked?

Yes I have been stalked. I’ve had a few. But one in particular showed up at my house and slept outside of it for a week. He stole my cat then pretended to find him for me. It was very weird.

Your character gives up a guy for a friend in the film. Is this the real Paris you’ve been hiding? Are you good to your friends?

Yes that’s really how I am in real life with my friends and my family and the people who do know me. People who think they know me it’s just kind of like the media’s character they’ve made up. It’s not who I really am.

What do you think when people say bad stuff about you?

I don’t really pay attention to what people say about me because I know people sometimes feel they have an obligation to be mean about me for some reason and I can’t really change their opinion but I’m proud of myself and that’s all that matters to me.

What’s better being single or being in a relationship?

It’s hard for me to be in a relationship right now with my schedule, I’m always travelling.

But you are managing to date Benji Madden. What do you look for in a man?

Someone who can make me laugh. They have to be sweet, fun to be around and honest.

What turns you off about a man?

Someone who is rude, that turns me off. I hate it if they lie, or they brag.

How would you describe yourself to someone who doesn't know you?

I’m a sweet person with a big heart and I’m having the time of my life and I’m very happy. I just want to make people smile. I want to bring some colour into the world.

You have your finger in many business pies. What product lines do you have now?

I have clothing and perfume. I have books, shoes, hair extensions, watches, jewellery. I do the designs and I wouldn’t put my name on anything I didn’t believe in. I have five fragrances and I wear them myself. Today I am wearing ‘Can Can’.

What is your favourite area?

You know what it’s really hard to pick because I have so much fun doing everything but I really love fashion and actually I just launched my own shoe line. I have so many products I am doing!

It’s fun, but I definitely want to venture more into opening my own hotels, my own nightclubs and stores and restaurants and just getting more involved with real estate but that will be when I am older.

Where will we find your shoes?

Macy’s, Kitson and a bunch of other stores.

Britney’s falling to pieces, how do you stay so calm with all this fame?

Not to take it so seriously. I’m literally having the time of my life, I’ve never been happier and I don’t know people shouldn’t take everything so seriously and let things bother them.

I don’t pay attention to the media and paparazzi or any of that I try to have my real friends around me and my family and all my animals and pets. I have a lot of normal friends.

Finally what’s next for you? Would you like to do some more dramatic roles?

Yes definitely. My next role is directed by Darren Lynn Bousman, who worked on all the Saw film. Paul Sorvino plays my dad and Sarah Brightman plays my nemesis.

It’s a musical horror film and I’m not blonde in the movie. I have different hair and eyes. It was fun and awesome to get a role like that. Its called ‘Repo! The Genetic Opera’. I sing 12 songs in it.
