The Winner Takes It All as musical Mamma Mia storms to the top of the UK box office, dethroning Will Smith's Hancock after just one week. The film, which stars Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth and Julie Walters, is an adaptation of the hit Broadway and West End show and went on to gross over £5.2 million in it's opening weekend. An independent, single mother who owns a small hotel on an idyllic Greek island, Donna (Streep) is about to let go of Sophie (Amanda Seyfried), the spirited daughter she’s raised alone. On a quest to find the identity of her father to walk her down the aisle, Sophie brings back three men from Donna’s past to the Mediterranean paradise they visited 20 years earlier. Hancock fell to number two while Kung Fu Panda and Prince Caspian also fell just one place each, to number three and four respectfully, with all of the top three movies easily breaking the £1 million barrier.Rounding off the top five was new entry The Forbidden Kingdom, the martial arts picture that unites Jet Li and Jackie Chan on the big screen for the very first time, a former U.S. box office number one.The only other new entry was remake of The Journey to the Centre of the Earth starring Brendan Fraser.Sex and the City slipped to number eight after seven weeks on the chart.
