James Spader says that Ultron has a 'strange sense of humour' as well as some 'painful issues'.

Spader is set to be one of the new faces on the cast list of The Avengers: Age of Ultron in which he will take on the role of Ultron.

The movie will not be hitting the big screen until summer 2015 and The Avengers: Age of Ultron is already one of the most anticipated films.

Speaking to Shortlist Magazine the actor said: "A couple of years back I met with [Marvel Studios president] Kevin Feige at Marvel and told him it'd be fun to do something in one of his pictures and he agreed, but said they had to wait for the right thing. Then a month ago, he called me and said, 'We've found the right thing.'

"Joss Whedon called me and said, 'I really want you to do this.' He said this character had a strange sense of humour and some painful issues but he was able to retain a certain gravitas despite this.

"So I suppose I'll be making a fool of myself while still retaining a certain gravitas. I'll do my best to pull that off."

Joss Whedon will be back in the director's chair, while Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo and Jeremy Renner are all also set to return.

Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch are two of the other new characters that will be featuring in the film - but it is yet to be revealed who will be taking on these roles.

The Avenger: Age of Ultron will bring Marvel's Phase Two of films to a close and will look to equal the $1.5 billion success of Avengers Assemble.

The Avengers: Age of Ultron is released 1st May 2015.
