The original Ghostbusters franchise are a classic and beloved set of films, so when a new addition to the series was announced, everyone wondered if it will retain what made the older movies so good, while still spurring the journey onwards; upcoming film Ghostbusters: Afterlife seems to tick these boxes.

The newest addition to the adored ghost hunting franchise, Ghostbusters: Afterlife, appears to be an action-filled and exciting new movie that has come out of the original two films.

1984 saw the first Ghostbusters film, with the sequel following not too long after in 1989. These films were renowned for the unique use of special effects, comedy and theme of spooky ghosts; it still remains a fan favourite series to this day.

Now, later this year (2021), a new chapter will unfold. Ghostbusters: Afterlife will follow a family of three, including two siblings who realise that the legacy left behind by their grandfather is anything but ordinary.

Single mother Callie (Carrie Coon) and her two kids, Trever (Finn Wolfhard) and Phoebe (Mckenna Grace), relocate to a quiet town and move into the house left to them by their grandfather.

The siblings soon realise that while the town they’ve moved to may be boring, their new house definitely isn’t. They both share an amazing connection to the original Ghostbusters and want to explore more of the legacy left behind.

However, when the town begins to quake and become dangerous, Trevor and Phoebe, with the help of high school science teacher Mr. Grooberson (Paul Rudd), try to figure out how to save Summerville.

The trailer seems to really echo the atmosphere of the original films; the music is slow and gets louder the more we’re shown, and the concern of the unknown is felt by every character. With a more action/adventure vibe, this new instalment in the spooky series seems to play respect to the classics, while doing its own thing.

We also see a recognisable face; the Slimer was a ghost that proved a formidable foe for the original crew, and he is seen again in this trailer. While it may be a different ghost, the appearance of the green blob definitely points towards a Slimer.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife also appears to be bringing new monsters and ghouls to the fray, with the addition of a werewolf-like creature chasing Mr. Grooberson from a Walmart, but not before the teacher sees some very familiar marshmallows...

This trailer really gives off the same feeling the first two films did, and will hopefully do so throughout the entire movie.

The brand-new trailer ends with Mr. Grooberson, Phoebe and another kid watching an old video made by the original Ghostbusters that shows their number; we then see a shot of the old warehouse and a voice, not unlike Peter Venkman (Bill Murray) answer the call...

Ghostbusters: Afterlife will be in cinemas November 11th, 2021!
