This five-track EP from Berlin’s favourite ‘anti-hero’ managed to split the band in half with it’s drum and bass funk melodies.

Alec Empire - Shivers

Alec Empire - Shivers

As the first song, Control Drug, rang out, Charlie was bouncing around saying; “ It's funky man! I like it already. It's good man, it gets your head moving, good electronic, I like the distorted vocals. I can imagine raving my face off to this, it’s drum and bass tastic.”

Although I was less than convined, Shivers was branded as a Vangelis meets Top Gun hit and Baby Skull scored; “ 10 points for the crazy intro - it's weird and quirky but I like it. It's not your run of the mill shit, I like it.” from Dan.

The final track, 1000 Eyes, has a very Nine Inch Nails vibe to it, and Omar thinks, “It has the NIN side to it, but not too similar, it's not like he's trying to rip it off or anything”

One person who is taking my side on this though, is the little fox Alex, who insists; “It's just noise.” yeah, I’m with you on that one mate. Although Dan isn’t going to be discouraged as he tries to convince us with the claim; “It's cool, it's almost got a Lou Reed meets NIN feel to it.”

It can’t have been that bad though, as Omar thought it was so interesting and different that he took the CD back home with him. Score.

Fightstar Rating: 4/5
