Will you spend you time off somewhere like here?

Despite the fact that we're now into the final third of the year, the average Brit still has a huge two weeks annual leave remaining.

Although most have enough time for two weeks in the sun, just 11 per cent are planning on taking a fortnight's holiday, according to the study conducted by Travel Supermarket.

With most of us having just enjoyed the last bank holiday this side of Christmas - lucky Scots still have St Andrew's Day to look forward to at the end of November - a new trend is emerging, with over half of Brits now creating their own bank holidays.

Fifty-one per cent of Brits plan to either 'bolt-on' days to their weekends or 'take a day here and there' to help them through the slog of four months work between the end of summer and the Christmas break.

Despite having so much time left to take too, they have no idea what to do with it. An unadventurous 29 per cent will be taking a week or two off and simply staying at home and a further 11 per cent have no idea at all what they will be doing with their remaining holiday allocation.

"Brits really need to get their holiday requests in now or risk losing out altogether. They may not realise this, but when you take your holiday may be completely at the discretion of your boss - if they feel too many people are off, they can reject it. So if half the office leaves it too late in the year, chances are some will miss out.

"Once you've got your time sorted, make plans to use that time wisely, whether you plan a total rest or a whole range of activities. Our research found that a third of Brits felt like they didn't make the most of their bank holiday, so don't waste the opportunity and make sure you don't feel the same after taking some time off from work. There are some fantastic deals on the market for autumn escapes - both for those who are making their own bank holidays and for those who want more of an extended break.

The results provided an interesting insight into how Brits spend their bank holidays. A third they're a great opportunity to visit friends and family, whilst 21 per cent use them to try new activities and days out. Whereas some use them for more mundane tasks like chores around the house and garden and 7 per cent think that they're a waste of time. Shocking, we know.
