Hanbury ManorHanbury Manor 5-star hotel certainly lives up to every expectation. Driving down the winding paths with views of fine greenery and colourful flower arrangements, arriving at the hotel really does take your breath away.
As we approached the stately Jacobean country house which boasts 200 acres of Hertfordshire hotel parkland, it exudes rich history, and the calming classical music that greets you, added to the warm welcome, making you feel like royalty.
After a smooth and easy check-in and all round polite staff who made it their priority to be at your service, we made our way to our room with easy access to the lift and stairs whichever your choice.
Zodiac RestaurantBoasting a wealth of period features and a picturesque view as you step into your room, not forgetting the amazing view in the bathroom also, the room screams the ‘wow’ factor. Providing all the essentials from tea/coffee, hairdryer, a fan, and not forgetting the mini toiletries, Hanbury Manor offers their very own dressing gown and slippers to add a little extra touch, and if you find yourself constantly wearing the gown and footwear (they were very comfy indeed!) you can purchase them from the Marriott shop which is explained in the welcome pack.
The room was very spacious and clean and the décor would be appreciated by the modern traveller but the one thing that stands out is the way they maintain the elegant period touches throughout and the way they embrace the history of the hotel which makes for a perfect look for the hotel.
We had afternoon tea in the Zodiac restaurant which was the perfect set-up for an afternoon snack. The grand room complete with paintings and glistening chandeliers, the room was remnant of the Victorian era.
Vardens SuiteThe afternoon tea was superb- accompanied with champagne- the selection of food was scrumptious. The scones were my favourite part- still warm, light and soft, and was perfectly complemented with the clotted cream and jam. The selection of deserts were excellently presented and were definitely luxury at its finest.
The hotel boasts a magnificent 18-hole PGA Championship golf course designed by Jack Nicklaus the 2nd and is great for golf lovers or if you’re looking to brush up on your skills then practice your putting skills in the training area. If you forget any of your treasured golf equipment, visit the golf shop that provides everything you need for a great game of golf.
The pool and spa area is also easy accessible. The pillars surrounding the pool and the well-thought finishing touches throughout give it a Romanesque vibe. If you’re looking to pamper yourself then you have a wide choice from massages, nails and you can even take a visit to the on-site hairdressers that will leave you feeling fabulous. The tranquil atmosphere is perfect while you lay in the Jacuzzi and gaze out onto the views that look out upon the lake.
Afternoon TeaDinner was situated in the Zodiac restaurant which had a 3 course set menu, but if you want a little more variety you can dine in the Oakes Grill bar which offers a range of steaks, fish and chicken.
While we were waiting to be seated, we enjoyed a selection of canapés which was a lovely touch before the meal, and soaked up the barrel vaulted ceilings of enriched parquet work and the warm open fireplace.
To start, I enjoyed the salmon which was well presented and melt in the mouth. I’m a fish lover, so for my main I ordered sea bass and it was the best I have ever tasted! The flavours were divine and the course as a whole was just perfect, I was very impressed. Small distinctive touches were made on the plates using zodiac signs, hence the name of the restaurant. For dessert I enjoyed a strawberry supreme and it lived up to its name with strawberries, sorbet and cheesecake. I couldn’t fault it.
Main- SeabassBreakfast didn’t disappoint either. With a selection of cereals, cheeses, ham, croissants and fruit as well as a Full-English breakfast, there was something for everyone. It was well displayed and everything was continually being filled up. Tea and coffee was brought to you by staff on request and a selection of juices were also available. The stand-out point of the breakfast was Hanbury Manor’s own omelette which included black pudding, ham and mushroom.
The exclusive 5-star country house hotel is licensed for civil ceremonies. With a choice of beautiful functions rooms, wedding cuisines, the historic and elegant architecture makes for a perfect wedding.
Pool AreaThe hotel is focused on providing the best experience for their guests, with 5-star food and excellent waiting service and help. The historical Hanbury Manor Marritot Hotel & Country Club makes an excellent lasting impression.
