Flooding?
Brits are strongly advised not to visit some parts of the world for their safety, however despite this, people still insist on visiting them. Warnings such as adverse weather conditions and protests are among some of the reason you re advised to pick another spot for your holidays this year. Sunshine.co.uk wanted to investigate if these warnings were taken on board or simply ignored by tourists.
53% admitted that they would ignore any warnings given and still go on holiday when they were asked ‘If you’d made your mind up to travel to a destination, would you cancel or delay plans if the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) had advised travellers not to go there?’
Of those that would still go, they were asked what would make them reconsider, and violent incidents or protests was the top reason to stay at home. 55% said that they would pay close attention to this kind of activity. Only 34% of Brits paid attention to severe weather warnings.
The participants were asked which of the countries has been issued a traveller warning, 91% didn’t know and so they were then asked if they would go on the FCO website to check it out before travelling, 75% still said that they wouldn’t.
Chris Clarkson, Managing Director of sunshine.co.uk, said the following about the findings:
“The FCO issue travel warnings for a reason. Britons wishing to remain safe and enjoy a hassle free trip overseas should always check the FCO website for advice and base their travel plans around what they find. It’s not often that popular holiday resorts will have warnings issued against travel there, but it’s always worth checking just in case.
“I was shocked to see that many Britons don’t bother to check advice that’s been issued, as it should be part and parcel of the holiday bookings process, especially if you’re planning to go somewhere off the beaten track.”
