The 39-year-old comedian has big ambitions to become a household name in the USA but he's terrified no one is going to turn up his first headline gigs that are happening soon in New York City.

During an interview with his guest, American comedian Rob Delaney,

on 'Alan Carr: Chatty Man' tonight (16.10.15) on Channel 4 the bespectacled chat show host queries his potential popularity on the other side of the Atlantic.

Alan said: "I want to do some stand up in America next year. Actually, I have got some dates booked in New York ... Now Rob, do you reckon Americans have heard of me? I've got this theatre to do and I don't think anyone is going to turn up ... How big am I in America?"

The presenter goes on to quiz Rob - who stars in Channel 4 sitcom 'Catastrophe' with Sharon Horgan - about his chances and argues "I was Seagull Number 1 in 'SpongeBob SquarePants: The Movie'."

Alan previously joked he'd never make it in the US because of his distinct voice.

And 38-year-old Rob - who hails from Boston - gave Alan some tips so his very British humour doesn't get lost in translation.

Alan asks "will I have to change my act? Do they have Lidl over there?"

To which Rob replies: "It's funny you mention that because when I first came over here I was like, 'There won't be any translation problems because I just speak to the common man.' And then everything I was saying had so many cultural references, so it does take a second. You should maybe consider letting me write some jokes for you just to be safe."
