It was revealed yesterday that the entirety of Homeland season five will be filmed in Berlin, Germany, with production slated to begin this summer.

Becoming the first American series to film an entire season in Germany, it's not clear just why the show is making the move, but one thing that is apparent is the series' ability to consistently shock and surprise.

Here's the official synopsis for season five: "Season five will pick-up two years after Carrie Mathison's (Emmy®, SAG and Golden Globe Award® winner Claire Danes) ill-fated tenure as Islamabad station chief. Struggling to reconcile her guilt and disillusionment with years of working on the front lines in the "war on terror," Carrie finds herself in a self-imposed exile in Berlin, estranged from the CIA and working for a private security firm."

Set two years on it'll be interesting to see just how some of our favourite characters are getting on with their lives and what they've been up to in the 24 months we've been without them.

Homeland season five is expected to premiere in early fall on Showtime.
