'Strictly Come Dancing' star Sophie Ellis-Bextor was apprehensive about the "sensual" rumba.

The singer is competing in the celebrity contest and admitted she was "intimidated" by her upcoming performance because it is a sexier routine than she's used to.

Speaking to The Sun on Sunday newspaper, she said: "I was a bit intimidated by it initially because it's a more sensual dance.

"You don't walk up to someone in a disco and start doing the rumba. But having seen the professionals doing it, I could see it was a real dancer's dance."

However, the 34-year-old star has insisted she doesn't feel "sexy", although she has no problem if viewers appreciate her sultry performance.

She added: "I'm used to being emotional when I sing but I haven't had to do anything like this before. I do think dancing has made me lose some inhibitions.

"I don't know if I can call it sexy - I think it is a performance. But if you think I'm sexy, then fab!"

And although Sophie is now a favourite to win the show, she has insisted she's taking it a week at a time.

She said: "I can't think like that - it's week by week. Every week you do a dance and get through, it's like another metre along the plank.

"You feel like you're going to fall into the water but at the moment I'm just looking out and enjoying the view."
