Tonight's premiere episode of the eighth series of Britain's Got Talent saw a whole host of new acts come through the doors and face Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and David Walliams.

Before the talent did indeed kick off, we were given the usual grand opening with Ant & Dec back in their usual position, leading a bunch of wannabes through the streets of London to the front of Buckingham Palace, as the search truly began to find the next big act for this year's Royal Variety Performance.

The chemistry between Simon and David is again front and centre and though we should really be focussing on the people hoping to showcase their skills to the world, they do manage to steal the show on more than one occasion with their quick wit and great humour.

Once we'd sifted through the rubbish - which included a man with an owl that did absolutely nothing, and a guy who just loves to dance but should keep his moves to himself, there were some promising results that did get Simon, David, Alesha and Amanda grinning from ear to ear.

Countryvive

CountryVive are a group of 18 line dancers from all over the UK, made up of 16-25 year olds who impressed the judges with their up tempo line dancing routine. It was a great new addition to the regular dance acts we see year in year out, and the panel seemed t agree, giving them four yeses and sending them through to the next round.

Collabro

Next up with a boy band with a difference - Collabro. On first impressions, Matthew, Jamie, Tom, Michael and Richard seemed like they were just going to be another all male group with a generic sound, and so when they belted out a musical theatre song with a range of fantastic voices, they were immediately met with shock and applause.

Light Balance

This group of 18-30 year olds from Ukraine are like nothing ever seen on the Britain's Got Talent stage in the past. A collection of computer programmers and dancers sees the group perform in pitch black on the stage with their unique dance and light show.

Lucy Kay

Originally from Nottingham but now residing in Glasgow, Lucy's travelled to the auditions with her mother and is hoping to impress after facing a tough childhood and battling bullies, leading to her even contemplating suicide at one point in her life. Her soprano voice is stunning, utterly tragic and is sure to send shivers down your spine, moving the audience to tears and resulting in her sailing through to the next stage of the competition.

Lauren & Terrell

A young street dancing duo from Essex who are similar to some we've seen before, but utterly infectious with their brilliant personalities and manage to charm the judges.

Paddy & Nico

The first act to secure one of the judge's Golden Buzzer uses, as Amanda Holden slammed the new addition to the show right down and sent the pair sailing through to the live semi finals. "I hope you win Britain's Got Talent" Amanda said as she compared Paddy to her grandmother, and Simon even apologised for buzzing the act off the stage before giving them a chance to shine.

With so much talent in just the first episode, this series of Britain's Got Talent looks set to be one of the best yet, and I for one cannot wait to see just where it ends up going next.
