When PETA found out that a little mouse ran across the set on This Morning yesterday they immediately offered some help.

The group sent a humane mouse trap that will ensure the mouse is caught, but not harmed and can be released in a nearby park.

PETA also sent a letter that offered tips for Lucy Johnston (producer) on keeping mice out of the studio in future.

"Mice may be small, but they are bright, social, and sensitive animals", says PETA Senior Campaign Coordinator Kirsty Henderson. "We're spreading the message that catching them gently and releasing them, unharmed, outdoors is a solution that everyone – including mice – can live with."

PETA's letter to Johnston can be read below.

Dear Ms Johnston,

I am writing on behalf of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). When we heard about the mouse who has recently made appearances on the set of This Morning, we were inspired to lend you a hand. We’re sending you a humane rodent trap (which can capture animals without harming them) so that you can gently usher any unwanted visitors from the ITV studio.

Mice are opportunistic survivors. Their populations thrive according to the availability of food, water, and shelter. Simply modifying an environment to make it less desirable to rodents will encourage them to stay away. These modifications can include keeping food in sealed containers as well as sealing any holes in walls and foundations. Using live traps rather than lethal methods means your uninvited guest can be harmlessly released in a natural area.

Glue traps – usually flat trays coated with adhesive – should be avoided at all costs. Trapped animals are subject to starvation and dehydration, and some even chew off their own limbs in an attempt to escape. Poison is also an especially cruel killer that affects rodents’ nervous systems and causes violent convulsions before victims finally succumb to the effects of the toxin.

Will you please let us know that you’ll refrain from using violent means to solve the problem of these small visitors at ITV?

Thank you for your time and attention.

Yours sincerely,

Kirsty Henderson

Senior Campaign Coordinator
