Imogen Tite was swimming at Woolacombe Beach in Devon during a family holiday when she discovered the item of jewellery and initially suspected that it belonged to her father Andrew.

He told the Daily Mail newspaper: "I instinctively looked down to check my wedding finger, but I take mine off in the seas, as the cold water can make your fingers shrink."

After closely inspecting the ring, the pair discovered that it was engraved with 'James and Rebecca, 25.10.03' and posted a message on social media in the hope of finding the owner.

It turned out that James Mizrahi was looking for the ring after he had lost it two days previously while bodyboarding with his wife Rebecca.

Andrew said: "A lady on Facebook happened to see both my found status and Rebecca's lost post in a local Devon based group and matched us together."

The ring was subsequently returned to its owner.
