Tomatoes are found to help with depression

Modern living can be stressful on us not only physically but also mentally. However, new research has revealed that eating tomatoes just a few times a week could halve the chances of suffering from depression.

Researchers in China found that those eating tomatoes two to six times a week were 46 per cent less likely to suffer from low mood than those eating them less than once a week.

The study, led by a team of researchers from China and Japan looked at the mental health records and diet habits of just under 1,000 men and women aged 70 or over.

Tomatoes are a particularly rich source of lycopene – an antioxidant that has been linked with cardiovascular benefits, reducing the risk of prostate cancer and aiding in skin health.

The team of researchers wanted to investigate preliminary reports that lycopene might also promote psychological as well as physical health by reducing oxidative stress, or damage to healthy brain cells.

Lyc-O-Mato® is valued as a dietary supplement and functional food ingredient because it provides a full complement of tomato carotenoids and other nutrients to benefit good health. The synergy of the natural tomato lycopene, phytoene, phytofluene, beta-carotene, phytosterols, and vitamin E results in enhanced activity and this means greater health benefits for you.

Lyc-O-Mato® uses natural tomato lycopene from a strain of non-genetically modified tomatoes, which are very rich in lycopene with up to four times the amount found in regular tomatoes.
