Diet food of the week

Diet food of the week

Diet food of the week is our new feature, where we look at a particular food you can still treat yourself too whilst trying to lose weight.

Keeping focus and your hand out of the cookie jar whilst on a weight loss scheme is hard work, so we all need a little indulgence from time to time.

But that little indulgence doesn't have to be laden with calories.

Here we pick out a diet food that is delicious and will keep you satisfied.

This week's pick is Oatly Chocolate oat drink.

Chocolate: the stuff of dreams but if only we could indulge ourselves without piling on the calories.

A 100ml glass of Oatly Chocolate contains 1.5 g of fat, of which only 0.2g is saturated fat, and only 3 grams of the sugars is added sugar: the rest is natural sugars from oats. Oatly Chocolate is one of the lowest calorie chocolate drinks available (55 kcal per 100ml) and tastes great hot or cold: perfect to slake those chocolate cravings without damaging your healthy eating regime.

Oatly is available in four varieties (Oatly Enriched, Oatly Organic, Oatly Chocolate and Oatly Organic Alternative to Cream) and are lactose, milk protein and soya free so they’re great for anyone who suffers from milk protein allergy, lactose intolerance and/or an allergy to soya.

But you don’t have to have a food intolerance or allergy to enjoy the great taste and health benefits of Oatly.  Oatly is naturally high in fibre, low in saturated fat and is cholesterol lowering:  just one 250ml glass of Oatly provides a third (1g) of the daily requirement of beta-glucans (soluble fibre) for cholesterol reduction.

Still better, you can enjoy it without damaging your budget. Oatly Chocolate retails at £1.49 for a 1 litre pack and is available from selected Waitrose, Sainsbury’s, Tesco and Morrisons stores as well as independent health food stores.
