Do you need to rid yourself of cellulite for summer?

Cellulite is something that can plague women, especially at this time of year when we're thinking about a summer holiday.

Renowned skin care expert Jill Zander of the Jill Zander Skin Rejuvenation Clinic has been treating cellulite for years and as her patients at the clinic would testify to, her diagnosis and treatment of this condition offers effective results.

Jill has stepped away from the treatment couch to provide her top 10 facts on cellulite, so we too can understand why, what and how to treat and prevent the dreaded orange peel …

Fact 1: Who knew ... There are Different Types?

Adipose Cellulite (firm cellulite, orange peel effect on loose skin) Oedematous Cellulite (fluid retention, soft cellulite often on loose skin) Fibrotic Cellulite (hard, compact cellulite with orange peel effect)

Fact 2: Get Moving and Shaking

Cellulite forms in areas with the least circulation so it means that without activity, (yes that’s right you have to move your body!) it’s very hard to budge! Everyday energising movements and skin warming exercises will have you saying ‘adios’ to dimpled skin if you are consistent with it.. Running, swimming and brisk walking are the best form of exercises for increasing blood circulation and loosening the fat tissues from those hard to budge areas.

Fact 3: Supercharge your Potions!

Jill Zander says you can super-charge those cellulite potions….“All of life’s tempting excesses can lead you to destination ‘cellulite –ville’, but get moving and you’ll find the potions you invest in work better. Following exercise, your metabolism and your blood circulation are stimulated and products you apply will be better absorbed, helping to activate the cellulite fighting ingredients.”

Fact 4: D.I.Y.

Body brushing, massage and good scrubs support circulation and makes shower time that little bit more beneficial. Ideally, daily body brushing, stroking in the direction towards your heart or a strong-handed massage on the thighs, will increase fat dispersion if done on a regular basis.

Fact 5: Every Little Helps

If you’re desk bound in your job then you’ll know that your day consisted of little action and unfortunately, cellulite is a big fan of females with inactive careers. Take breaks, make tea and walk and talk rather than pinging an email. All of these small simple steps remind your rear it needs to keep in shape!

Fact 6: There’s a Device to Diminish

I have been receiving superlative results using a new treatment called Lipotripsy which harnesses painless radial wave therapy.  Cellulite occurs when fat cells swell.  Fat cells become very hard and unable to drain away the contents.  The radial wave therapy allows the fat cell walls to become healthy and permeable again, meaning the fat can naturally drain away.  We can have you beach body ready in as little 4 weeks. Yes really!

Fact 7: Tightening & Toning

Once cellulite has been reduced I often find that skin requires tightening.  This is due to the skin having been stretched when larger and then left looser once the fat cells have reduced in size.  We offer excellent tightening results in clinic using Exilis or if clients prefer at home products I recommend IMAGE skincare CELL.U.LIFT body firming creme £87.95.

Fact 8: You are NOT Alone

Cellulite is often hereditary, so it’s likely your family members will be suffering from the same problem. Also, it is said that 95% of women have a type of cellulite somewhere on their body and post pregnancy can bring on uneven skin too, so rest assured, you’re in good company and even skinny people aren’t immune to cellulite!

Fact 9: Get your Grade

There are four different grades of cellulite… and we have special cellulite diagnosis plates which when held on the skin tells us the grade so that we know how best to treat it.

Grade 1. No visible cellulite, even when the skin is pinched

Grade 2. No visible cellulite when lying down or standing.  An orange peel texture can be seen when the skin is pinched

Grade 3. Cellulite is visible when standing, but may disappear when lying down

Grade 4. Visible cellulite when standing and lying down

Fact 10: Making a Late Appearance

The onset of Hypotonic Cellulite is typically between the ages of 35 and 45.

Typically Effected Areas:  Lower thighs and sometimes the bottom.

What it is:  This type of cellulite gives the appearance of a sagging thigh when it only affects the upper thigh.  When it affects the bottom, the bottom takes on a heavy, sagging appearance.  This type of cellulite only has shallow irregularities (orange peel) and they are fewer in number than seen with other types; however it is common to be accompanied by stretch marks.
