While 2015 has been a year where some terrific films have been released, we have also seen some that have not been that great. We have been counting down the top ten Worst Films of 2015 and we have reached the number one spot... which will be filled by Mortdecai this year.

Mortdecai

Mortdecai

It is fair to say that Johnny Depp has not had the best run of movies or box office success in recent years - with the exception of his latest film Black Mass. That poor run continued at the beginning of 2015 when he led and an all-star cast in the truly awful Mortdecai.

Mortdecai was a big screen adaptation of the novel by Kyril Bonfiglioli and saw Depp reunite with filmmaker David Koepp for their first film together since Secret Window back in 2004. Gwyneth Paltrow, Ewan McGregor, Paul Bettany, and Olivia Munn all joined Depp on the cast and you do have to wonder what they all saw in this terrible screenplay.

Juggling some angry Russians, the British MI5, his impossibly leggy wife and an international terrorist, debonair art dealer and part time rogue Charlie Mortdecai (Depp) must traverse the globe armed only with his good looks and special charm in a race to recover a stolen painting rumoured to contain the code to a lost bank account filled with Nazi gold.

From start to finish, Mortdecai is an unfunny and incredibly odd movie and I find it hard to believe that this film was given the green light on the basis of such a poor script.

This is a career low for everyone involved and there is some really good acting talent on this cast list that is made to look truly dire. I really don't know what to say about Mortdecai as it nothing but a mess of a movie with no redeeming features whatsoever.

It is hard to say that there is any kind of solid plot here as all you have is a bunch of horrific characters running from place to place with no real purpose. It tries to be funny but falls flat on its face and the whole thing is just abysmally weird.

Don't get me wrong, I am a big Depp fan and think he has been in some great movies and delivered some wonderful performances during his career... this is not one of them. It has been a difficult couple of film years for the actor and this really is a new low point. I don't know about you, but I would rather not see him on the big screen and all than see him in rubbish like this.

I don't like heaping criticism on an actor I am a big fan of but this is a shallow and ridiculous movie that is driven by an equally shallow and ridiculous central character.

Mortdecai was a movie that looked terrible from the moment the first trailer dropped and it really did not disappoint in just how awful it was; I'm surprised that the studio even released it.

Sadly, there's nothing here to like at all and this movie couldn't have got Kyril Bonfiglioli's cult creation more wrong. Even if you are a big Depp fan, give Mortdecai a very wide berth as it is 107 minutes of your life that you will never get back.
