The former Olympic gold medal winning pair .. who coach the contestants on the ITV show - have given Ray their backing for Sunday’s (22.03.09) final.

When asked if Ray was the best competitor ever on the show, Jayne said: "Chris Fountain was a very strong skater, but with Ray you can be very creative and he can pick up the routines quickly."

Christopher added: "He has been the strongest skater from the start. Ray is a natural talent and he is a really nice guy."
Former ‘The X-Factor’ finalist Ray, 20, is also favourite with bookmakers to win, with odds of five to one on his clinching the show in the final against ex-Liberty X singer Jessica Taylor and former undercover reporter Donal MacIntyre.

Ray has, however, undergone a difficult week training for his performance in Sunday’s final - in which he has to perform a routine which will see him fly across the rink on a wire.

The show’s host, Philip Schofield, updated his online blog from training sessions, saying: "News from the rink, Ray is getting motion sickness from the flying and spinning, Stugeron [a drug used to control travel sickness] someone please."

Philip added all the show’s contestants will return for a special performance in the final, apart from one, due to injury .. although he said it won’t be Coleen Nolan sitting out, as previously rumoured, who dislocated a rib before her appearance in the show’s semi-final.

Philip added: "All the celebs are back except one who has a bad back and will have to watch from the green room because they can't sit down .. not Coleen."
