The 63-year-old TV presenter says it must have been a "terribly difficult decision" for Holly to announce her departure from the programme after 14 years, but Lorraine is looking forward to seeing what the ‘Dancing on Ice’ presenter does next.

Speaking on her 'Lorraine' show, she said: "'Dancing On Ice' is coming in the new year and there will be loads of other projects, of course there will.

"It just is a shame. It's just a shame and obviously, Holly, we wish you all the very best for you and your family.

"I know this must have been a terribly difficult decision because she loves the show."

Holly - who has 13-year-old son Harry, 11-year-old daughter Belle, and eight-year-old Chester with her husband Dan Baldwin - has been absent from 'This Morning' since last week, when a man was charged with soliciting to commit murder over an alleged plot to kidnap the TV presenter.

Lorraine also appeared on the show as a guest last week, and she admitted it felt as though things were "getting back to normal" on the programme.

She added: "Helen [Addis] and I were on the show last week, I think it was last Tuesday... and it was lovely. Holly was so relaxed and so happy. Her and Josie obviously got on like a house on fire.

"The whole place just felt as if things are getting back to normal, do you know what I mean? And then, out of the blue, this happens.

"This horrible, awful thing that she is having to deal with. Horrific. Terrible."

Holly's departure comes after her former 'This Morning' co-host Phillip Schofield quit the show this year after admitting he lied to bosses about an "unwise but not illegal" affair with a younger male colleague.
