I'm A Celebrity's getting into the swing of things once again, so we've got the latest highlights of the action in the jungle.

ISLAND LIFE . . .

The Snake Rock team were getting used to outdoor life.   Losing the challenge meant that they had to spend the night on snake infested Stradbrook Island.   Setting up a basic camp, Ashley said “I was heartbroken.  I don’t know what I’m doing.  I’m totally out of my element.”

Hugo said “It’s definitely the weirdest camping holiday I’ve ever been on.

As the rain started to fall, Colin said “I must confess I wasn’t expecting to sleep on the floor which is probably full of 19 foot tarantulas.

 . . . . AND CAMP LIFE

The situation didn’t get much better when the following morning Colin, Eric, Ashley and Nadine arrived at Snake Rock, which would be their camp home for the foreseeable future.

“Where do the beds go?  I thought we were up off the ground.  I thought there were hammocks” exclaimed Nadine as she found a set of groundsheets on the floor.  “We’ve got to get our own wood; we’ve got to distil our own water” she continued as the realities of camp life started to hit home.

She read instructions.  “It says collect wood from the river bank but it’s too wet to go collecting wood.”

She worried that they had to keep the fire burning and Eric said he would collect wood to keep the fire from going out.

Nadine continued to read.  “Oh my God.  You will find an empty bucket with a lid and a pair of gloves.  Put on the gloves and collect the bucket and take it to the back of the dunny.”

“We have to empty the toilet out with our hands.  We have to empty out the toilet ourselves.”

She continued.  “Underneath the dunny you’ll find a bucket containing human waste.  Take the lid and screw it on the full bucket.  Replace the full bucket with the empty one.   So we have to take a turn at doing that each day.”

Having previously worked as a nurse, Nadine was used to this type of activity.   She took charge of the camp and was soon allocating tasks to her camp mates.  “You know what we want to do.  We want to divide ourselves up into wood monitors, water monitors, and emptying the dunny monitors.”

She told Eric that he would be in charge of fire wood.  But when he attempted to break up a dried palm leaf for kindling, she said “Eric, that acts as a rush carpet so probably best to leave it there (on the floor).  Otherwise you’ll be walking on soil.”

“I’m feeling worn out” she exclaimed having organised the camp.

Over in Croc Creek a triumphant David was the first to arrive in camp.  Hoping to see his fellow camp mates, he was greeted by an empty camp and set to work lighting the fire.

When his fellow celebrities finally joined him in camp the conversation quickly turned to his Bush Tucker Trial.  When asked how he did in the trial, the boxer replied “How do you think I did?”

Excited to find out the contents of their winning meal, thanks to fellow camper David’s successful Bush Tucker Trial, Brian set about reading the contents of the food bag, which included wallaby shanks, mushrooms, beetroot and dragon fruit.

Charlie took on the camp cook role, but a confused Helen was shocked to learn that they would have to cook the meat in camp.  She had thought it would already be cooked when it arrived.  Underwhelmed at the prospect of eating the wallaby shank, she promptly refused to eat it.

GETTING TO KNOW NADINE

Nadine and Hugo talked about politics.  She said “In Westminster,  politicians really have to crack out of this fusty old fashioned impression everybody has.”

“They think everybody lives in landed estates; everybody’s out of touch with real people.  I think MPs have really got a responsibility given all the bad press we’ve had recently to get out of Westminster and communicate with people on a different level.”

“Maybe opening Westminster up a little bit more?” Hugo suggested.

Nadine replied “Yeah.  That’s one of the reasons why I’m here.  16 million people watching this show.  That’s how politics should be.”

Hugo told her that he’d always been told to stay from politics and religion if you work in television.  “It’s so difficult to balance the two” he said.

Nadine replied “So do you think politicians should keep away from television?”

Hugo told her “I think politicians should probably stick to the television that they have open to them and it’s up to the BBC Parliament (Channel) to make those channels more interesting.”

But Nadine continued “We just don’t communicate with enough people that way.  16 million people watch this programme.  16 million people do not watch Prime Minister’s Question Time or Question Time.”  She continued “The viewing figures of Newsnight are what 200,000?  Millions of people watch popular TV.”

American Ashley also explained Nadine’s situation.  “Nadine is part of the Parliament.  She’s been filling me in on things I wasn’t familiar with.  All of that.  She wanted to come on the show to have a voice and get out there and reach the public and I think that’s admirable.   She’s so sweet.  I like her a lot.  It feels like I’ve got a mom within camp.

The conversation turned back to politics in Snake Rock.  Nadine asked Eric how he voted.  “I don’t vote.  They’re all liars” he replied.  “Not everyone’s a liar Eric” she said.

Eric continued “It doesn’t matter.  I like Cameron.  He’s alright.  He likes darts an’ all.  I’ve done a show with him.  He’s a posh boy isn’t he?”

Later In the Bush Telegraph he said “They’re all liars aren’t they?  They want to get the job.  They promise you this and that.  They get voted in then they haven’t got the money to do it.  They might mean what they say at the time, but they never deliver.”

Hugo asked Nadine is she would ever like to be Prime Minister.  “God no” she replied.  “Never in a million years.

Eric said  “Anyway, we could argue about (politics) for ever but we ain’t going to get anywhere.  My father always said to me don’t argue about politics, religion or children.

Later Colin talked about the public vote for the Bush Tucker Trials.  He claimed that everyone would vote for Nadine “because the British public have a great disrespect for politicians.  Especially slightly controversial ones.  She doesn’t tow the party line.”

HELEN’S GOT THE FEAR FACTOR

Helen’s day went from bad to worse.  After conquering her fears on the highwire, the actress struggled to cope with her first night in camp.

Helen struggled to cope in her new surroundings and complained to Linda that she heard a rat and screamed that a bug had bitten her face.  Clearly distressed, the actress called for help from the males in camp but they seemed underwhelmed by the damsel in distress.  Linda advised her to leave them to sleep otherwise ‘they will get the hump.’  Helen later added, “People are going to get fed up with me.’

After a difficult night under the stars, Helen was unable to hold back the tears. In the Bush Telegraph the actress revealed she may now be sleeping in with fellow actress Charlie Brooks, “It’s been emotionally draining and bless her poor Charlie I must be doing her head in because I won’t leave her alone. She’s so nice she said ‘you can sleep with me tonight’ so that’s good.

“I’m knackered.  I was here with my sleeping bag standing up thinking ‘oh my God there are rats crawling around my bed and I’ve got to go to sleep.  How do I do this?  I completely freaked out.”

The rats continued to be the topic of conversation in the morning, Boxer David Haye admitted to finding the rats cute, whilst Brian confessed that one nipped his toe.

Charlie Brooks also revealed that her first night in camp was ‘pretty horrendous’ but added, “David woke up and was immediately power squatting.”

HUGO’S TEARS

In Snake Rock, an exhausted Hugo was overcome with emotion and burst into tears.

Chatting in the Bush Telegraph, Hugo at first, seemed upbeat when talking about his trail and losing out to boxer David Haye, but reflecting on the his time in the jungle so far, the reality star broke down into tears.

He said, “As far as this experience is going it’s definitely harder.  I’m just hungry and tired and feeling a bit over emotional.  I didn’t expect to cry this early.  It’s hard to rationalise when your body is saying you need to eat, when you need to sleep.  It’s just terrible.

“When I found out I lost (the trial) going through all of that suspense and doing the whole challenge (then) finding out that you haven’t won anything, that’s pretty demoralising.  It would have been nice to have had a nice richer meal than rice and beans.  When I walked in you could see people’s faces looking saying ‘do you have good news?’ I think immediately they could tell that I didn’t.”

Referring to his campmates and their roles in the jungle, Hugo said “I’m not bitching around here at all, or maybe I am a little bit but Nadine is a mother and my understanding of mother’s normally is that they know how to cook pretty basic food.  I think Nadine keeps looking to me for answers on how to cook, I’m not an expert but I think some people need to take a little bit more initiative right now.”

LAZY HELEN

In Croc Creek the campmates set about their daily chores except for actress Helen Flanagan who struggled to find a job that she could do.

Admitting that she can be lazy, Helen finally emerged from her sleeping bag when she saw her fellow celebrities busy around the camp.  As she joined Linda and Charlie she was shocked to find that one of the daily routines of camp life was to clean out the dunny.

Linda confirmed, “We have to clean the dunny every day and you will have to do it.”

Helen said, “No one is allowed to do a number two while they are here.”

The actress then confided to Brian, “How come everyone is so much better at doing stuff than me?”

She later confessed to Charlie and Linda, “I don’t think I’m going to be very popular because I’m squeamish.”

Linda added, “You might be popular to do the trials.”

Admitting that she thinks she will annoy campmates by not pulling her weight, a defiant Linda muttered, “You will cause I’ll make you do it!”

She did however perk up when she declared, “I’m going to go and give myself a spray tan and do something constructive.
