Cleaning the house proves to be a good workout

An easy way to burn off calories. That is music to the ears.

We don't often realise just how often during the day we are burning off calories. Even flicking between the channels whilst watching the television is a super, mini workout.

New research proves that mopping the floor for an hour will burn off 238 calories. The stretching and sweeping will burn off as much calories that can be found in a chocolate bar.

But it's not only mopping that will bring out a sweat. The stuff you do daily around the house counts as light cardio workout, which will help beat the bulge.

Instead of spending money of a gym membership you could be losing weight in making your home a cleaner place to live.

Hoovering for 30 minutes works off around 150 calories. Intensify the workout by dancing around as you do it, just remember not to have the blinds open, you'll give the window cleaner plenty to laugh about.

Doing the washing up for 10 minutes burns off 20 calories, so think after a Sunday dinner and the big piles of dishes left afterwards, your burning off that extra roast potato you had. Ironing for an hour burns 130 calories and really works the arm muscles, get ready to say bye to the bingo wings.

Changing the furniture round in the house is definitely the best workout. Doing this for 45 minutes burns as many calories as there is in a sausage roll, a whole 280.

Also, the small little jobs that you constantly put off, like raking the leaves, washing the car or mowing the lawn can burn off 100 calories if done for a mere 20 minutes.

Get it all done in the one day and burn a staggering total of 1,118 calories. So treat yourself afterwards, for the same amount that you have burned you can drink a whole bottle of wine and not feel too guilty. Just a little hungover in the morning.
