Jane Wake shares her best tips

Celebrity fitness expert, Jane Wake is working with Splenda on a campaign to get women to realise that it's the small steps that can make a big difference to our health.

Her she shares her tips to help us get more fit.

Rise and shine

Stretching each morning will make a real difference. Sit on the bed, take deep breaths and slowly roll your shoulders back. Stand and stretch arms overhead and picture the new you – you know she’s in there.

Give up the gym

Just saying the words “I have joined the gym” doesn’t work. It’s usually just another journey to factor in to your day. So bring your workout to you such as buying a good 30-minute exercise DVD.

You can dance

Remember your favourite dance track? You’re never too old for a bit of a bop – even just putting a CD on while you are doing the chores will encourage you to work those muscles more.

Don’t run before you walk

Start off walking briskly for 3 minutes and then running for 30 seconds, and repeat for 20 minutes. These small workouts, taken 3 x a week, will make a big difference to your fitness.

Award yourself

We need incentives and goals to work towards -  set yourself small goals that you know you can achieve and when you’ve reached an important milestone – reward yourself with a massage or a new outfit

Have fun

Fitness should be a pleasure, not a chore, so vary your options - From dance classes to volunteer gardening – find something that means more to you than just fitness

Do it with and for others

There’s no greater motivation than working towards something that will help others. Whether it’s to walk 5km for charity or to get your partner/best friend walking daily – help others to help yourself.

Easy-peasy press-ups

Keep bingo wings at bay – place hands against a wall, body straight, tummy tight and with arms outstretched at chest height. Bend elbows to bring your chest to the wall, between your hands.  Lift and repeat x 10 - 15, 3 x week.
