Are you trying to lose weight for summer?

Are you trying to lose weight for summer?

Thanks to the hot summer we've been embracing it means our skin has been on show, but uncomfortable dieters have found that they've been trying their best to avoid showing their body.

New research has found that half od dieters admit to missing out on summer activities such as swimming to aviod showing their body.

Furthermore, while the winter months allow over a quarter of dieters to hide away in extra jumpers, almost two thirds admit that during summer they feel more comfortable peeling off the layers abroad where no one knows them.

Despite this, it seems that low self-esteem is still packed in the suitcase, as the research  from XLS-Medical Fat Binder, discovered 1 in 5 were only comfortable when covering up in a high neck and high back swimsuit during a summer getaway.

The research suggests even though most Brits have been enjoying the summer sunshine, size is hindering dieters from making the most of it. With a staggering 87% of dieters admitting their weight has a negative impact on how they feel, it’s not surprising that only 3% of respondents felt comfortable enough to wear a boob tube bikini on holiday.

This may be why the midriff, thighs and tops of arms were cited as the body areas dieters felt least comfortable showing in summer.

“Many dieters struggle with body confidence so it is understandable that they are more inclined to cover up in the summer months,” comments Helen Bond, Consultant Dietitian to XLS-Medical Fat Binder.

“Those who have struggled to reach their ideal size in the past may be suffering from a lack of confidence in their own weight loss abilities. Dieters should be aware that changes to their diet can result in an initial reduction of serotonin or energy levels which may lead to a drop in motivation. By choosing foods which release sugar steadily, like wholegrain carbohydrates, they can better control their energy levels and in turn will be less likely to turn to comfort foods or a quick sugar fix!”

Slimming for summer

The research also showed 2 in 5 people are most motivated to lose weight in the run up to summer, with over a third specifically aiming to lose weight for a summer holiday. However once on the sandy beaches, the research reveals a staggering three quarters of dieters throw willpower out the window and pile on up to a stone whilst on their summer break.

Elise Lindsay, Fitness Advisor to XLS-Medical Fat Binder remarks: “When on holiday and feeling relaxed it’s easy to let the weight creep on. But you don’t need to let your pre-holiday hard work go to waste, there are some really easy exercises you can incorporate without fuss to help combat holiday weight gain. Try getting involved in beach games or competitions in the pool, they are great fun and the whole family can get involved!”
